Commission's move ''unethical'' - Subrata

The State Election Commission was criticised by a minister in the West Bengal government today for its 'unethical' move to approach the Supreme Court over panchayat poll when the poll process has started.

"It is totally unethical on the part of the commission to move the Supreme Court during the ongoing panchayat poll process," State panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said at the state secretariat.

Saying that the SEC's approach to the apex court came at a time when the voting process through postal ballots commenced from today, he alleged, "The CPI(M) and Congress have been conspiring to stall panchayat election. In advance, we (state government) filed a caveat as it may be raised as a mention case".
 

Mukherjee criticised the SEC for using the 'pretext' of force availability and said he was already out on poll campaign.

Asked what would happen to the civic bodies whose term would expire shortly, the minister said, "The government will take steps.
