Commission submits report on Sualkuchi violence

The one-man commission, inquiring into the violent incidents in Assam's silk village Sualkuchi last year, has submitted its report to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi with recommendations for addressing the various problems of the weavers.

The Justice (Retd) S K Kar Commission submitted the report last evening to the chief minister who said that he would go through the report and the recommendations put forth by the commission, an official release said here today.

The state government had constituted the Commission to inquire into the incidents of violence at Sualkuchi in Kamrup district on March 29 and 30, last year.

The commission ascertained the root causes that led to the violence at Sualkuchi and also the method of procurement and selling of Banarasi silk clothes under the brand of Sualkuchi silk or Assam silk and misleading the people at large.
