Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today formed a team comprising government officials and representatives of the Tank Users Association here to desilt and maintain Bangaru channel, Sunday.

A release from Raj Nivas said Bedi visited the channel, which is the main feeder channel for the sprawling lake in Bahoor in the Union Territory and 13 tanks in its vicinity besides eight other tanks in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

She also visited the Sornavur anaicut from where the Bangaru channel originates.

Desilting this channel would ensure that all the tanks fed by the channel receive copious flow of water during monsoon without hindrance.

Farmers would have assured flow of tank water for irrigation, it said.

Besides territorial government officials, representatives of PWD from Tamil Nadu were also present during Lt Governor's visit to the anaicut.

The release further said to carry out desilting and for maintenance of the channel a joint committee of PWD and Revenue departments of Puducherry and also members of the Tank Users Association was formed on the spot.
