Committee on creation of 2 ADCs in Arunachal meet MAC members

Members of the high-level committee constituted by the Centre to examine the proposal of Arunachal Pradesh government for creation of two Autonomous District Councils have met representatives of the MAC, official sources said today.

The state government has proposed for creation of Mon Autonomous Council (MAC) comprising West Kameng and Tawang districts and Patkai Autonomous Councils (PAC) for Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts under the Sixth schedule of the Constitution.

The team headed by Union Home Ministry's Joint Secretary (NE) Shambhu Singh held the meeting with MAC representatives yesterday, the sources said here.

Other members of the team were DoNER Director Umakant, Ministry of Tribal Affairs Director S M Sahai and Home Ministry deputy secretary S Saha.
 

During the meeting, Singh stressed on mobilisation of internal resources for revenue generation and said any state or district council should have enough capacity to run and generate its own revenue, sources said.

"We need to generate surplus resources and revenue so that we are not dependent on outside funds from the Centre or the state. For this, the development of your resources, specially hydro-power and tourism is of utmost importance" he said.

Singh further mentioned that steps were required for safe preservation of the region's social and cultural structure.

"We shall discover and ensure steps so that the social integrity and cultural identity of the region is preserved" he said.

DoNER director Umakant called for steps to shape up the merit of the local populace and said phase-wise implementation and completion of the projects and schemes were important for development of the region.

State RWD and Tourism minister Pema Khandu, who represented the district, informed the committee members that the state government was focusing on implementation of its policies, the sources added.
