The Arunchal Pradesh government should constitute a committee to address issues related to racial discrimination and special grievance cells for students of the Northeast should be set up, were among suggestions given to a Centre-constituted committee.

Among other suggestions were proper accommodation and hostel facilities for students outside the state.

The suggestions came during a meeting convened yesterday at Namsai by Tape Bagra, a member of the Centre-constituted committee to look into the concerns of the people of Northeastern states living in other parts of the country, official sources said today.

The committee was requested to pick up pending and closed cases and punish perpetrators.

A two-year special syllabus on the people and culture of the NE states should be introduced in schools in the country as also the contributions of the region's people to the freedom movement and the development process.

The state's resident commissioner and deputy resident commissioners in the metropolitan cities should hold regular meetings with students of the state, while the Centre should organise national cultural and sports events to highlight the NE region.

Bagra will hold similar meetings in other parts of the state to obtain firsthand feedback from the people.
