Committee submits report on Sachar panel recommendations

A panel tasked with evaluating the implementation of Rajinder Sachar Committee Report recommendations and Prime Minister's 15 points programme, today submitted it report.

The committee headed by Amitabh Kundu of Jawaharlal University and comprising seven other social scientists presented their final report to Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla. It was constituted by the UPA government in September, 2013.

Heptulla promised implementation of its recommendations after studying the Sachar Committee report as early as possible, an official statement said.

It was also asked to assess the outcome of the programmes implemented by Ministry of Minority Affairs and other Ministries and to recommend the corrective measures by September 2014, it said.
 

The committee has evaluated and assessed the implementation of the process of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee and made suggestions for obtaining better outcomes, it said.

Sachar Committee, appointed in 2005 by the then prime minister Manmohan Singh, had looked into socio-economic status of Muslims and offered a host of measures to uplift their conditions.
