The irrigation department of the Maharashtra government has constituted a 10-member committee to look into the causes of the recent floods in western Maharashtra.
The committee, headed by Nandkumar Wadnere, a retired principal secretary of the irrigation department, will also recommend measures to avoid such floods in future, a government resolution (GR) said on Friday.
The other members of the committee are drawn from the irrigation department, IIT Bombay, the Central Water Commission, the India Meteorological Department and other concerned departments.
The devastating floods in Kolhapur, Sangli and other areas of western Maharashtra in the first two weeks of August claimed at least fifty lives.
