Andhra Pradesh branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will organise the Commonwealth Youth Parliament in Hyderabad for five days from October 21.

President Pranab Mukherjee is expected to inaugurate the event in which 68 'Commonwealth Citizens' in the age group of 18-29 and 108 young parliamentarians from 54 Commonwealth countries will participate.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, CPA chairperson Alan Haselhurst and secretary general William F Shija would also attend.

The Commonwealth Youth Parliament, which hitherto used to be held once in five years, is now being held annually since the last event in London.

"We are inviting presiding officers of all legislatures in the country to the CYP. Besides, the youngest male and female legislators from all the Assemblies are also being invited to participate in this prestigious event," Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar said.

The objective of the CYP is to give young parliamentarians from Commonwealth countries the opportunity to understand parliamentary practices and procedures and enable them to lead and partake in a range of parliamentary processes including various committees and parliamentary-style debates.

The CYP will also help consider topical policy areas for Commonwealth Parliamentarians, with a particular emphasis on governance, youth unemployment and access to education, according to Manohar.
