BJP today accused the Uttar Pradesh government of discriminating while awarding compensation to the victims of various incidents, and demanded a relief amount of at least Rs 10 lakh for the family members of eight labourers who were killed in an explosion last week.

"The state government had given Rs 50 lakh compensation and job to two family members in Deputy SP Zia-ul-Haq murder case. It had provided Rs 45 lakh to Mohammad Ikhlaq's kin but give a meagre amount of Rs two lakh to the kin of eight labourers killed in an explosion on October 15," BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai said.

"Why is there discrimination in awarding compensation? We demand at least Rs 10 lakh compensation to labourers' family and their rehabilitation," he said adding, the incident had taken place due to "corrupt officials and mining mafia".

On black flags being shown to him here soon after his arrival here, Bajpai claimed that it was conspiracy of the mining mafia.

Eight persons were killed on October 15 when explosives, to be used for mining, went off inside a room in Obra town.
