Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination and Secretariat) Ravikant said while the dependents to be eligible should have no cognisable offences lodged against them, while the victims themselves might have such cases registered against them or have been listed as criminals.

The decision, taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during the day, would be implemented with retrospective effect from December 20, 2010 when the home department had adopted a resolution for payment of ex-gratia to the victims of Maoist violence in Bihar, he said.

The government pays Rs one lakh to the dependents of those killed in Maoist violence, Rs 50,000 to those who suffer permanent disability and Rs 20,000 to those who sustain serious injuries, he said. PTI KDK KK
