The Competition Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 12.58 lakh on Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and two individuals for unfair business ways with respect to screening of movies dubbed in Kannada.
While directing the entities to "cease and desist" from anti-competitive practices, the watchdog has asked the grouping to come out with a 'Competition Compliance Manual'.
The ruling has come on a complaint filed by film producer G Krishnamurthy pertaining to a tamil movie dubbed in Kannada.
The regulator found that the KFCC and others "acted in concert and impeded entry and screening of dubbed movies and in particular the informant's film Sathyadev IPS - in the state of Karnataka" in violation of competition norms, as per an official release.
"Such anti-competitive practice was found to have an appreciable adverse effect on competition and adversely affected the consumers, producers and exhibitors of dubbed cinema in the state of Karnataka...," it added.
Out of the total fine, the penalty is nearly Rs 9.73 lakh on KFCC.
