A complainant, who had registered a murder case in connection with the killing of his uncle, aunt and grandmother on June 1 last under Potka police station, has turned out to be the murderer himself.
Addressing a press conference here today, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anoop T Mathew said the police had lodged an FIR against unidentified killers under sections 302/438/34 IPC based on the statement of one Makhan Hansdah in connection with the killing of his 60-year-old uncle Sobhan Hansdah, his wife Dehlo Hansdah and grandmother on the night of May 31 last under Potka police station limits.
All the three victims were fast asleep when their throats were slit with sharp weapons.

After committing the crime, the accused had hanged Makhan upside down in a nearby tree and set afire a motorcycle and heap of hay in the premises, Mathew said quoting the FIR.
Based on the evidences gathered by a special police team during the course of investigation, Mathew said the police have arrested Makhan, who has committed to the crimes during interrogation.
Makhan told the police his uncle and aunt had a life insurance policy worth Rs 20 lakh each, Mathew said adding with sole motive to grabbing the insurance amount, Makhan had slit the throats of his uncle and aunt with a sharp weapon.
As his 95-year-old grandmother had witnessed the crime, Makhan also eliminated her in a similar fashion.
The accused had hanged himself upside down from a tree before he set a fire motorcycle and heap of hay to mislead the police, Mathew added.
