Amritsar district authorities today filed a criminal complaint in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here against Punjab cabinet minister Anil Joshi.
The complaint in the court of PS Rai has been filed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Amritsar, under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
Advocates Sandip Gorsi and Vaneet Mahajan, confirming the development, said that complaint has been filed in keeping with orders issued by the Election Commission.
Gorsi said EC had directed the State Election Commission to initiate an inquiry against Joshi under Sections 17,18 and 31 of the RP Act.
The inquiry was to be held into the alleged violation by Joshi of several clauses of the RP Act. EC had asked for the report in the matter to be submitted within a month.
In his complaint to EC against Joshi and his kin, including wife and mother, Gorsi, a local Congress leader, has alleged that the former were enrolled as voters at more than one place and also responsible for making false declarations before the last Assembly elections in Punjab.
Joshi and his eight family members have been asked to appear in court on the next date of hearing on April 9.
When contacted, Joshi said that an inquiry into similar allegations has already been conducted by the State Election Commission which issued a clean chit in the matter to him and his family members.
