The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption today informed the Madras High Court that it had registered complaints against state minister K T Rajendra Balaji for allegedly acquiring disproportionate wealth.
In its counter before a bench here, Additional Superintendent of Police(DVAC) D Shanmuga Priya said the department had ordered a preliminary enquiry on September 6 on complaints filed M Raja and one Vimal Chinnappan and that the enquiry "is under progress."
She also sought dismissal of the petition filed by one B Mahendran as the charges levelled by him were identical to the one made by Chinnappan.
Raja alleged that the minister had declared his assets at Rs 29.83 lakh while filing his nomination, but had recently purchased 34 acres in Virudhunagar district for Rs 74 lakh.
Recently Balaji had got some relief as the court had dismissed a PIL filed by Raja, seeking a direction to the DVAC to conduct a detailed inquiry into a complaint.
The court had observed that since the content of the complaint required elaborate exercise as to its truth and genuineness, it was of the view the petition is premature.
Chinnappan's petition sought an enquiry into the property acquired by the minister in Thiruthangal for Rs 28 lakh. This complaint also had been registered, the ASP said.
Justice R Sudhakar and Justice S Vaidhyanathan posted the case for hearing to January 7, 2014.
