Comprehensive policy for senior citizens on anvil: J-K min

"The comprehensive policy for senior citizens is on anvil. The state government has already taken a number of steps for the welfare and well being of the old age persons," Itoo said while interacting with a deputation of J&K Pensioners Welfare Association and Civil Society members, who called on her here under the leadership of Sampath Prakash.

While discussing various issues related to the welfare of the pensioners and senior citizens, the minister informed that the Department has already drafted J&K Senior Citizens policy and send it to the Law Department for processing it for further necessary action.

She said presently around 5 lakh people, which include 2.86 lakh in Kashmir and 2.51 lakhs in Jammu are deriving benefits under various pension schemes.

 

Itoo said the beneficiaries include a significant chunk of senior citizens, destitute and women in distress and physically challenged.

The minister added that government has also constituted a State Advisory Council for senior citizens in which prominent citizens have been included.
