Compulsory helmet rule for 2 wheeler riders comes into force

Compulsory helmet rule for two wheeler riders in the union territory of Puducherry came into force today, police said

Traffic police at various junctions fined first time offenders Rs 100.

Motorcycles and scooters form a big chunk of vehicles in Puducherry .

Traffic police had conducted several awareness programmes on the necessity to use helmets prior to implementation of the rule.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, who participated in May Day celebrations organised by the ruling Congress in neighbouring Kalapet today, alsoexplained the necessity to use helmets.

He said helmets are essential to prevent loss of life in an accident and urged people to extend cooperation by observing the rule.
