Ram Chandra Dome (CPI-M) pointed out during Zero Hour that Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) is responsible for conducting trials of drugs before they are introduced in the market. "33 new drugs have been approved in the recent past without any human trials to check their safety," he said.
Dome said an anti-cancer drug, being marketed by a company as a cure for breast cancer, is being promoted as a fertility medicine though it has harmful side-effects. He expressed surprise over how this was being done and no action has been taken.
"The health of hundreds of thousands of people is being compromised," Dome said, demanding stringent action.
Rama Devi (BJP) alleged that the staff at AIIMS is mainly engaged in treating the rich patients while the poor people have to wait for months to get their medical tests and diagnosis done. She demanded suspension of erring officials and doctors.
