Concern over production of Kanjivaram saree

The exquisitely handwoven Kanjivaram saree is a preferred choice for many women and concerns over its production was shared by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today.

Kumar, during Question Hour, directed Textiles Minister Anand Sharma to apprise M Krishnaswamy (Cong) of the steps taken by the government to promote the variety of sarees.

"Please call him to your chamber and give him relevant information he has sought. We are all concerned about Kanjivaram sarees," she said.

The Speaker made these remarks during Question Hour, when Krishnaswamy wanted to know whether the government had any plan to establish a silk park in his constituency Arani in Tamil Nadu which is known for handwoven silk sarees.
