Punjab State AIDS Control Society (PSACS) today called for concerted efforts from all quarters for prevention of AIDS in the state, which is grappling with the rise of drug menace.
"Health interventions alone cannot lead to prevention of HIV/AIDS, it requires concerted efforts from all organisations in public life through their work and programmes," said PSACS Project Director Hussan Lal.
Presiding over a workshop here, Lal said the prevalence of HIV among Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) in Punjab is three times as high as national prevalence due to sharing of needle and syringes which is posing a major challenge for the state.
The Society is implementing needle syringe exchange programme to address injecting drug abuse in the state, he added.
