Concerts by leading exponents of Indian classical art, music and dance, folk, theatre, lectures and interactions will mark the sixth International Convention of SPIC MACAY at IIT Kharagpur to be held from June 3-9.
Among the 2,324 registrations received from 28 states and Union Territories in India and some from abroad, 1,000 young delegates have been chosen to participate in this years international convention of SPIC MACAY (The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth).
An IIT KGP statement said that concerts by leading exponents of Indian classical art, music and dance, folk, theatre, lectures and interactions and an overnight classical performance will be among the various culture activities at the meet.
Renowned artists such as Prof T N Krishnan, Begum Parween Sultana, Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pt Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty, will be regaling the audience at the convention, organizing faculty members of IIT KGP Prof Pallab Dasgupta and Prof Joy Sen said.
The convention provides a one-of-a-kind platform to develop a bridge between the classical Indian heritage with the students of the present generation, faculty at the Department of Geology and Geophysics and one of the organising committee members from IIT KGP, Prof Abhijit Mukherjee said.
IIT KGP has collaborated with Hindustani classical vocalist Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty recently for the promotion of Hindustani classical music among the younger generations and preservation of the unique 'Guru-Sishya' culture of India.
It has also planned a centre for classical arts, the statement said.
