The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) today said it would go ahead with its proposed one-day strike on January 8 as conciliatory talks with bank managements and government officials have failed.

AIBEA has called for the strike to protest alleged violation of employee service agreements by the associate banks of State Bank of India (SBI).

SBI has five associate banks -- State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Hyderabad and State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.

AIBEA officials, representatives from Finance Ministry and senior executives from banks participated in the conciliation meetings held yesterday in the presence of Chief Labour Commissioner at New Delhi.

"Managements of associate banks persisted with their stand and rejected the Labour Commissioner's advise to put on hold the implementation of CPS and to find amicable solutions. Hence reconciliation failed," AIBEA General Secretary C H Venkatachalam said in a statement here.

"The Chief Labour Commissioner advised the management of associate banks that the implementation of CPS be put on hold and find amicable solutions through mutual discussions," he said.

"AIBEA and State Sector Bank Employees Association (SSBEA) agreed to it. But unfortunately, the management of associate banks did not agree. Hence, AIBEA has decided to go ahead with one day strike on January 8," he said.
