Press Trust of India Chennai
: Madras High court has directed the state government to conduct the ongoing counselling for for teachers in a transparent manner.

Justice D Hariparanthaman gave the direction on June 23 while disposing of a petition from V Vaiyanan, awaiting promotion to the post of Post Graduate Assistant (Biology),now working as BT Assistant in a government school in Kayalkudi in Thoothukudi district.

The petitioner opted for promotion and transfer to a Government Higher Secondary School of his choice. But in the counselling, his plea was not considered.

Disposing of the petition, the judge bemoaned that the transfer and postings were not done in a transparent manner, but instead done in a secret manner. The purpose of counselling is to ensure that transfer or promotion was done in a transparent manner and the teacher should not have a grievance that his/her juniors are transferred or promoted unduly.

The judge directed the authorities concerned to conduct the ongoing counselling, in which the petitioner is taking part, in a transparent manner.
