The decision was taken at the executive meeting of the Confederation, which was attended by all constituent Federations representatives held here.
The members said though all preparations were made to enforce the strike on May 18, they preferred to wait for the outcome of the contempt petition filed in the Supreme Court by the Confederation when the Apex Court reopens after summer vacation in July.
Accordingly CNNAEO, which is spearheading campaign for wage boards across the country, decided to shut down newspapers and news agencies throughout the country on August 3 if wage revision is not effected by that time.
"The Confederation is committed to fight for implementation of the wage boards awards for nearly 40,000 journalists and non-journalists...But as part of strategy we have decided to defer the strike to August 3, 2012," CNNAEO General Secretary M S Yadav said.
The confederation meeting was attended by Madan Talwar of AINEF, Rajendra Prabhu and Manohar Singh of NUJ(I), Parmanand Pandey of IFWJ, Madan Singh and S N Sinha of IJU, M L Joshi of UNI Workers Unions, President of Indian Express-Jansatta Union C S Naidu, General Secretary of Times of India Unions Roop Chand, Sanjay Sinha, Rajbir Singh and Ajay Tyagi of Federation of PTI Employees Unions.
