Conference on AIDS prevention in December

Karnataka, which is one of the worst HIV-affected states after Andhra Pradesh, is hosting the event for the first time. As many as 550 experts are expected to attend the conference.

ASICON president Dr Ishwar S Gilada told reporters here that about 50 national speakers representing the best in the HIV prevention field would deliver lectures.

Issues like HIV treatment, what combinations should be used, adverse impact of drugs, opportunistic infections and HIV associated cancers, newer drugs and vaccines will be discussed, he said.

The conference, which will end on December 25, would also deliberate on multi-drug resistant, extremely drug resistant and totally drug resistant (MDR/XDR/TR) TB, Gilada said.

 

Union Minister for Health Ghulam Nabi Azad, Karnataka Medical Education Minister A Ramdas and Chairman of Forum of Parliamentarians on AIDS Oscar Fernandes will attend the conference among others, he said.
