Conference to commemorate Maharana Pratap's birth anniversary

To commemorate the 475th birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, Ministry of Culture will organise a day-long special lecture and conference next month to explore historical and cultural context of the warrior.

The event -- titled 'Maharana Pratap and His Times' -- will be organised at University of Rajasthan in Jaipur on March 4, according to Nehru Memorial Museum and Library's website.

"The proposed day-long conference will explore the historical and cultural context of Maharana Pratap," the website said.

"The event will seek to locate Maharana Pratap in his times by exploring different dimensions of socio, cultural, economic, agrarian and military life of the times," it added.
 

Maharana Pratap was born in May 1540.

The government had also observed the 150th birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai and released a commemorative coin of Rs 150 and a circulation coin of Rs 10 on the freedom fighter last month.

Besides, the government would also observe the 200th birth anniversary of Tatya Tope.

Earlier, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma had said the government will observe the commemorations of birth centenaries, 125th, 150th and so on of personalities of national importance.
