In a message felicitating Salman Khurshid on his new role as External Affairs Minister, his Bangladesh counterpart Dipu Moni said, "I am confident that, with your personal initiative and support, we would be able to resolve the outstanding issues very soon and take our relations to an even higher level".

Moni said she looks forward to working with Khurshid to make Bangladesh-India relationship "a model for others to emulate, not only in our region but also beyond. This we owe to our people for now and for posterity."

Moni said Khurshid's "close and tested connection with Bangladesh since its birth will no doubt ensure new frontiers in the great vision contemplated by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh's First Foreign Friend Indira Gandhi, and consolidated by Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Sheikh Hasina."

Khurshid, as Law Minister, had visited Dhaka earlier this year to mark the 19th anniversary of Bangladesh's national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's famous poem 'Bidrohi'.

Among the major bilateral outstanding issues are signing of an agreement on Teesta water-sharing and implementation of a deal to demarcate the land boundaries and exchange of enclaves held in adverse possession by the two countries.
