Accusing the West Midnapore district Superintendent of Police of being partial to the ruling Trinamool Congress, Congress today questioned the IPS officer's invitation to a TMC MP in a programme organised by the police.

"A blanket distribution program was organised by the Jhargram district police where Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy was invited as the chief guest," said Md Sohrab, Congress legislative party leader, in a letter to the state DGP.

Sohrab pointed out that rather than inviting the Chief Minister, the state chief secretary, the home secretary or any other state minister to the programme, SP Bharati Ghosh chose to invite Roy, which shows how the officer acted as an agent of the ruling party.

He also requested the DGP to ensure "minimum neutrality in the functioning" of Ghosh.
