Cong activist's body found, party election office torched

The body of a missing Congress activist, who was attacked by miscreants during campaigning, was recovered and a Congress election office torched today in Kamrup district.

Lohit Boro was missing since the attack on Congress candidate Alaka Rabha and her supporters by some criminals at Jarpara area yesterday evening, the police said.

Rabha is a contestant of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council polls scheduled to be held during November 13-25.

In another incident, a Congress election office was gutted by unidentified persons at Nalapara area in Boko.

Additional security forces have been deployed at Nalpara and Army was patrolling in sensitive areas after the two incidents.
 

Senior police and civil officials were also closely monitoring the situation, sources added.

Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council polls are being opposed by several organisations who are demanding exclusion of non-Rabha area from the Council in Kamrup and Goalpara districts.
