Congress today staged a sit-in dharna here and burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over "growing incidents of atrocities" on Dalits in Punjab and other states where BJP or its allies are in power.
Led by Kapurthala district Congress committee President Joginder Singh Mann, the protest was joined by PPCC General Secretaries Balbir Raja Sodhi and Harjit Singh Parmar and Jarnail Nangal.
"Under Badal government in Punjab and Modi government in the Centre, Dalits were being treated as third-rate citizens and slaves," Mann alleged.
Citing the attacks on Dalits in Gujarat, the protesters dubbed Modi and Badal governments as "anti-dalits".
