Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today alleged that the Congress and some other forces tried to vitiate atmosphere in the state in the last one month by "repeatedly attacking" the sanctity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and SGPC.

"These forces, including Congress, have repeatedly attacked and are still attacking the sanctity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and SGPC, the two most revered institutions of Sikhism. Their intention is to take back the state to the bloodletting period of 30-35 years back," Badal said.

The minister promised to maintain peace and communal harmony in Punjab.

He was addressing a meeting of the workers and leaders of SAD (Badal) here.

"The SAD is the party of martyrs which has always been in the forefront of the every struggle to maintain peace in Punjab and is ready even now to make any sacrifice," Badal said.
