The Congress' claims of waiving loans of farmers if it comes to power in Punjab are its attempts at "politically bribing" the farming community, BJP state unit spokesperson Rajat Kumar Mohindru said today.
"State Congress chief Amarinder Singh has talked about waving the loans of farmers. This is entirely a 'political bribe' being offered to the farmers of Punjab," he alleged.
He questioned why did the Congress not take such a step when it was in power at the Centre for 10 years and said, "Had they (Congress) done it then, the farmers would not have become indebted as such."

He alleged that the concerns being raised by Congress leaders now are a mere "eyewash" and its attempt at getting votes in the Assembly elections due in the state next year.
"But, not only the farmers, all classes of the society in Punjab are aware of their reality that how after coming to power the Congress distances itself from the people," he said.
He also termed as "political drama" Singh's remarks, claiming that the former Punjab chief minister has no experience of farming or agriculture.
