Condemning Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's "terrorists have to be neutralised only through terrorists" remark, Congress spokesperson Sushmita Dev today said it was against the basic principles of the country.

"The comments of our defence minister are condemnable. We don't believe in using terror against terror," Dev told reporters here.

Parrikar had said terrorists have to be neutralised only through terrorists and India would take pro-active steps to prevent 26/11 type attacks hatched in foreign soil.

He had used the Hindi phrase 'kante se kanta nikalna' (remove a thorn with a thorn) and wondered why Indian soldiers should be used to neutralise terrorists.

Dev, who was commenting on the one-year old Narendra Modi regime, accused the BJP government of "compromising" national interest and national security.

"Principles and priorities of this (BJP) government to strengthen the nation are misplaced. The policies, programmes and diplomatic misadventures are suggesting that India has lost its strategic outlook of defence," she asserted.
