Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Prabhu Lal Saini has stoked a controversy by saying that "people won't die if they don't eat onions", drawing flak from the opposition Congress today.

Recently Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Prabhu Lal Saini has said, "If you do not eat onion, you will not die".

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President Archna Sharma condemned the Agriculture Minister Prabhu Lal Saini's comment saying it was a slap on poor people's face who survive on "pyaj and roti".

Onion was always an important vegetable of poor people who used to eat "roti with pyaj", and by making such funny statement Rajasthan Minister "slapped" them in the circumstances of high inflation and escalating price war, she said.

It would be better for the BJP government to control the rising prices of vegetables and make available onion on cheap prices so that people could buy it, she said.

The Congress has been organising a number of "onion sell counters in state capital at low price up to Rs 40 a kg, Sharma added.
