A Congress councillor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) today met Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and sought his help to convert his development fund into pension fund so that pending welfare pensions could be paid to the beneficiaries in his ward of Andrews Gunj.

Abhishek Dutt alleged that 745 people have not received their pensions for the last 18 months.

"Though SDMC had promised to pay pensions to thousands of beneficiaries in the civic area, they have not paid any pension for the last 18 months," he said.

He also attacked BJP, which rules SDMC, for not being able to pay monthly pensions of Rs 1,000 to the beneficiaries.

Leader of SDMC House Subhash Arya said the civic body had recently released the pensions for three months and would soon disburse the pensions for two more months.

He said there was no provision under which a councillor's fund could be used to pay pensions and alleged that Dutt was "indulging in politics" over the issue with an eye on the civic body polls next year.
