A group of MLAs from opposition Congress and CPI(M) today visited erosion hit blocks of Malda district today and demanded rehabilitation of the affected people.

The MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Abdul Mannan of Congress and CPI(M)'s Sujan Chakraborty, visited Manikchak and Kaliachak III blocks in a boat on the Ganga river.

They also talked to the affected people.

Mannan said the state and central governments should work in tandem to solve the problem of erosion.

Accusing each other would not solve the problem of the affected people, he said.

Chakraborty asked why the state government is silent on the issue of rehabilitation of erosion hit people.

If returning the land to people of Singur was the responsibility of the state government, rehabilitating these people who were forced to live under the open sky was also its responsibility, he said.
