Congress today debunked suggestions from the Samajwadi Party projecting Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Prime Minister and Rahul Gandhi as his Deputy after the next polls, saying no alliance is being planned with that party.

"As of now, Indian National Congress has no intention of tying up or having any understandaing with the Samajwadi party so the subsequent question does not arise," party spokesperson Sushmita Dev told reporters.

She was asked about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's suggestion that an alliance with Congress is possible in an arrangement where Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav is the Prime Minister and Rahul Gandhi his Deputy.

Akhilesh made the comments in the course of a conversation at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit here in the presence of the Congress vice president. However, Rahul refused to comment when asked about it.

The UP Chief Minister was replying to a question on whether he was ready to extend his "good" personal relationship with Gandhi to a political level with the Congress.
