A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress called on Governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday and put forth the party's concerns relating to the upcoming panchayat and urban local bodies polls in the state.
The delegation, led by party state president G A Mir, met Malik at the Raj Bhavan here. The members expressed their concerns and shared their views on various aspects of these elections, an official said.
A Congress spokesperson, meanwhile, said the party held meetings on Tuesday to discuss about the participation in the polls. "Another meeting will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) after which the party will announce its decision."
The Raj Bhavan official said the members apprised the governor about various development needs of their respective areas and overall equitable development of all the three regions of the state.
Malik emphasised the importance of empowerment of people through the establishment of local self-governing institutions, which would strengthen democratic framework at the grass-roots level and ensure direct participation of people in the development programmes of their villages and towns, the official added.
