There was a tussle between the supporters of the Left parties and Kolkata Police personnel last night over cremation of the body of the girl

Demanding a CBI inquiry into the gang rape and death of a 16-year-old girl, state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya today said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should resign due to police inaction in arresting the culprits.

"We want a CBI inquiry into the gang rape and the death of this girl. What happened is barbaric and heinous," said Bhattacharya.

"The police was inactive in arresting the culprits, but was hyperactive in taking over the body of the girl to cremate it. It is a shame, never before such kinds of things happened in Bengal," he said.

There was a tussle between the supporters of the Left parties and Kolkata Police personnel last night over cremation of the body of the girl, who died in a city hospital yesterday due to injuries sustained when she attempted suicide by immolating herself on December 23.
