Demanding dismissal of Chhatisgarh Health Minister Amar Agarwal over the death , Congress today took out a protest march alleging corruption and negligence in state government's health ministry and sought Chief Minister Raman Singh's resignation.

Senior leaders Motilal Vora, BK Hariprasad, Ajit Jogi, PCC Chief Bhupesh Baghel and CLP leader T S Singhdeo, who led the march were prevented them going further on Akbar Road, where they courted arrest and were subsequently released on the spot, a party functionary said.

Earlier in the day, Vora raised the issue in Rajya Sabha and said, the incidents of death of men, women and children in medical camps and hospitals in Chhattisgarh prove that health services have "failed" in the state.

In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Congress leaders drew his attention to newspaper headlines regarding the death of people in state due to medical negligence and demanded a probe by District and Session judge or any Supreme Court and High Court judge in the recent botched surgery operations in the state in which 19 women died.

The party listed incidents of alleged medical negligence in the state since 2011 in the seven-page memorandum.

"These headlines published in the newspaper can shock anyone but these have become routine news for residents of Chhattisgarh and they are happening with regularity in the state in last few years," the party said in memorandum.

Alleging that corruption has become a norm in the state, the party said," corruption in health department is playing directly with human life. Incidents of thousands untimely death in the state due to the use of spurious and substandard drug and medical equipments prove this.
