The Congress today demanded plots of land for the residents of the border areas who have to leave their homes and migrate to safer locations whenever there are incidents of ceasefire violation from across the border.

"The migrants should be provided five-marla plots at safer places as they have to leave their homes time andagain due to cross-border firing," chief spokesman of state Congress Ravinder Sharma said.

Sharma, along with other Congress leaders, toured the migrant camps in Rajouri district.

Later, he told reporters, "If the government gives them plots, they can construct shelters and at the time of disturbance at the border, they can shift to them," adding that this would also ease the burden of setting up the camps.

Sharma demanded transport facility for the farmers to go to their fields during the day.

The Congress leader also demanded monetary compensation for the residents of the border areas who have suffered losses to their houses and crops due to continuous cross-border shelling.
