Party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has given very specific answer on the issue and has already constituted a committee to examine the matter after which a decision will be taken.

"It's a very serious issue. There is a need for debate on it to forge a consensus...The party has an opinion. The intelligentsia will have some opinion. Different people have different opinions. We should discuss the issue and then come to a conclusion," Alvi said.

The Congress spokesperson's reactions came a day after the uporar in Lok Sabha over cartoons making fun of leaders finding their way into textbooks that prompted government to promise an inquiry into the role of NCERT officials and ensure that such a thing does not recur.

Members, cutting across party lines, had expressed concern over inclusion of such material in school textbooks with BJP and TDP utilising the occasion to demand the resignation of HRD Minister Kapil Sibal.
