Congress has lodged a complaint with police against AIADMK candidate of Sivaganga constituency P R Senthilnathan, alleging he used abusive language against Finance Minister P Chidambaram during electioneering.

While campaigning at Alampacheri village, about 12 km from Manamadurai, Senthilnathan allegedly used derogatory words against Chidambaram, which was objected to by local Congress workers.

"We have given a police complaint. We have also decided to file a complaint with the District Collector and the Election Commission. We are consulting party leaders," S Selvaraj, a Congress functionary, told PTI.

According to Congress workers, AIADMK has been carrying out an "aggressive campaign" to wrest the seat from Congress. Even small villages are covered by ruling party workers.

Against this background, the ruling party candidate allegedly used derogatory language against the Union Minister. Local police confirmed receipt of the complaint, adding they were awaiting instructions from officials.
