Cong hopes to win CMC election

Unperturbed over its debacle in panchayat and municipal polls in Odisha, Congress today claimed that it would form the next Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) council by unseating the ruling BJD in February 6 elections.

Senior Congress leaders of the district said they would put up a united fight shedding intra-party rumblings so as to form the council of the Corporation for the first time.

While BJP had formed the CMC council with the help of BJD in 2003, the regional party alone had formed the council in 2009.

"We will put up candidates in all the 59 wards of the city and are determined to win enough seats to form the council", said Cuttack city Congress President Md Moqim ruling out any pre-poll or post-poll alliances.

While Congress is yet to finalise its candidates, it released a 16-point poll manifesto on Saturday.
