Addressing media persons, Badal said as Home Minister, he was fully committed to maintaining peace and tranquillity in the state and would not allow Congress to "vitiate" this.

"Raising the issue of militancy especially before any elections is the old experiment in the political laboratory of Congress party," he alleged.

Congress had earlier tried to distract the public by its decision on FDI in retail sector and now they have raised the bogey of militancy, he accused.

State Congress chief Amarinder Singh had recently accused

Parkash Singh Badal-led government of inflaming passions and not allowing "old wounds to heal" through its actions like construction of the Operation Blue Star memorial.

While condemning last week's attack on Brar in London, Amarinder had also alleged that the Punjab government had "provoked the minds of young elements" like this, leading to the crime.

"The fact is Lt Gen K S Brar (retd) is a protectee of Union Home Ministry and any attack on him reflects the total failure of Union Government to ensure protection of its own protectee," Sukhbir said.
