Congress today launched its memebership drive in Jammu and Kashmir with leaders asking cadre to go on a vigorous campaign to strengthen and expand secular and progressive space in the state.
Asking workers to enrol members who are committed to the ideology and principles of the party, the state leadership asked them to lay special emphasis on youth, women, minorities and other downtrodden sections of the society.
"We urge Congress cadres in the state to go on a vigorous membership drive of the party in order to strengthen and expand the secular, progressive and democratic space in the three regions of the state," state Congress unit chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir said.

Addressing a function at the party headquarters in Shaheedi Chowk here, Mir said Congress is the only unifying force in the country and it has always taken care of the interests and aspirations of different sections.
He urged senior functionaries, legislators, district presidents, contesting candidates, besides block functionaries and representatives of Mahila, Youth, Seva Dal, INTUC and NSUI to enroll new members while laying special emphasis on youth, women, minorities and other downtrodden sections of society.
He said this is the only way to defeat the designs of communal, divisive and opportunist forces in the state.
The membership drive would see enrolment of new members and renewal of membership of party workers.
