A 52-year-old Congress leader was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in broad daylight in Sullia near here today, police said.
The deceased, Ismail Nelyamajalu, was the Congress Minority Wing local Karavali Valaya (coastal unit) President.
Police said Ismail was about to reach his car after completing his Friday prayers at a mosque at Irvanadu in Sullia when miscreants attacked him with machetes. He diedon the spot.
Two years ago, Ismail and his wife Waheeda Ismail, who was the president of Bellare Grama Panchayat were attacked by miscreants. The latest attack could be a sequel to it, police said, adding that it could bepersonal and no communal angle had been revealed yet.
Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, ASP Dushanth and other officials visited the spot.
