Cong Leader Ibrahim files nomination for upper House bypoll

Congress leader C M Ibrahim today filed his nomination for the Legislative Council bypoll scheduled on August 31.

He was accompanied by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka PCC President G Parameshwara and Working President Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had approved Ibrahim's name for the bypoll on August 18.

The filing of nomination had begun on August 14.

Ibrahim was former civil aviation minister in the H D Deve Gowda ministry.

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of BJP member Vimala Gowda, who passed away on April 17.

The last date for filing nomination is August 21.
 

The Karnataka assembly election is slated for early next year.
