Senior Congress leader and former minister Niel Tirkey today joined Ajsu party after not getting any assurance for a ticket to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Tirkey, who was a minister during the undivided Bihar, joined the Ajsu party in the presence of its chief and former deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto and other leader here.

Tirkey, who had a long political career in the Congress and had been a former legislator, was expecting ticket from Congress to contest elections.

Accusing Tirkey of being opportunistic, Jharkhand PCC General Secretary Alok Dubey said, "It is good that opportunistic politicians like Tirkey and Chandrasekhar Dubey left the Congress."

Chandrasekhar Dubey, a former minister in the Hemant Soren government before being dismissed on February 19, recently joined the Trinamool Congress.

"Congress did not give ticket to sitting MP Sushila Kerketta from Khunti in 2009 general elections and gave it to Niel Tirkey, who lost the seat badly. He also lost the subsequent assembly polls that year. And now, he expects ticket again," Alok Dubey added.
