Veteran Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra today said he would not contest the next election due to his advancing age.

He said he would, however, remain active in politics.

"I have made up my mind not to contest the next election as I will be 79 by 2019," Mishra, who represnts Bolangir, said.

"I dont think at such an age, one can do enough to work actively for the people," Mishra said adding he has sent an email to AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi saying that it was not proper for a politician to fight election after 70.

Mishra was reacting on a news item which said that he would quit politics. "It is not correct. I was born in politics and will stay in politics till death.
