Irshad Kar, son of late Congress stalwart in Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Rasool Kar, today joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) here.
A prominent political leader and social activist from North Kashmir's Sopore township, Kar joined PDP at the residence of the party president Mehbooba Mufti here, a PDP spokesman said.
Kar said that it was his desire to use his family influence and personal potential for positive change in Sopore and beyond.

His father Ghulam Rasool Kar served as a minister in the state government and was Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President.
Welcoming the move, Mehbooba said that dynamic political activists like Irshad should strengthen political institutions of consequence.
"Potential of such activists can rightly be channelised in an adequate manner for public good. However, this is possible only in a conducive atmosphere for change which PDP is striving for," Mehbooba said.
Kar also said that he was craving for an opportunity to work under the PDP banner since long as it is the party which has a road map and a committed cadre to shape the state's future.
He offered his services and support to the people and the party pledging that he will work overtime to accomplish PDP agenda and his personal dreams as humble political worker, the party spokesman said.
